Выделенное в соответствии с национальным законодательством место на территории страны, где под таможенным контролем хранятся товары без уплаты импортных налогов. Импортер, поставивший в ту или иную страну иностранный товар, не всегда готов по коммерческим соображениям в полном объеме направить свою продукцию на внутренний рынок этой страны для оптовой или розничной торговли или не в состоянии в данный момент уплатить причитающиеся таможенные пошлины и сборы. На таможенные склады сдаются также экспортные товары, за которые при экспорте могут выплачиваться импортные сборы и пошлины.
